Where passion changes lives
Jonathan White came to ZS as a software engineering intern after completing his undergraduate studies in computer science at the University of the West Indies. While he is currently pursuing his master’s degree in applied data science, he is also gaining practical experience working on real-life projects in ZS’s Kingston, Jamaica office.
“A friend of mine recommended ZS as an internship opportunity,” Jonathan recalls. “I explored the website and was inspired by the AI innovation and company culture. I knew this could be a place where I could grow my skills, expand my knowledge, network and have an impact.”
Jonathan is currently working on a proof of concept for an app. His average day involves collaborating with colleagues, developing and rigorously testing code to ensure high functionality and user satisfaction. Although Jonathan’s background is primarily in data science, this internship provides him with the significant opportunity to expand his web-based skills and dive into software development.
“This experience is going to round me out not only as a developer but also as an individual,” Jonathan says. “Because of the insights I’m gaining at ZS, I can help produce more quality code.”
While Jonathan helps develop new apps in Kingston, interns around the world take on a variety of different projects with ZS. Amalie Harrison, a decision analytics associate intern, works out of our global HQ in Evanston, Illinois while on summer vacation from the University of Virginia, where she is currently majoring in biomedical engineering. Her interest in consulting was piqued through a recruiting fair on her campus. After connecting with ZSers and learning about the dynamic nature of the industry, Amalie decided to learn more about the field.
During her internship, Amalie is working on developing co-pay forecasting models. Her role involves presenting her findings and connecting directly with clients, allowing her to gain meaningful experience in client relations and communication.
“This internship has pushed me out of my comfort zone,” she says. “My major has prepared me in a lot of ways, giving me the broad knowledge needed to take on this work. But I hadn’t experienced diving this deeply into one area of expertise.”
This internship enables Amalie to apply the analytical and problem-solving skills she’s honed through her biomedical engineering studies. Her time at ZS has also given Amalie the opportunity to expand her knowledge in programs like Excel and bolster her relationship management skills, all while learning how to further her abilities in management consulting. Through real-world experience and mentorship, Amalie is broadening her expertise and gaining insights into the practical applications of data analytics in the consulting industry.
Across the pond, Rubia Fatima works as a strategy insights and planning consultant intern in London, England. Rubia is a second-year MBA student at London Business School with a keen interest in consulting. She discovered ZS through on-campus recruiting events, where she was drawn to the company’s creative approach and lively work environment. Rubia is eager to apply her business acumen and strategic thinking skills during her internship at ZS. She is looking forward to contributing to meaningful projects and learning from experienced professionals in the industry.
Rubia is thrilled to explore the work culture in London, having gained all her previous work experience in India. She was curious to see how the professional environment in London differed and what unique opportunities it would present. From the moment she joined the ZS London office, Rubia felt welcomed into a supportive and collaborative environment. This experience has not only enriched her understanding of global business practices but also solidified her desire to pursue a career in consulting. Working alongside talented professionals in such a vibrant setting has reinforced her enthusiasm for tackling complex challenges and delivering impressive solutions.
As part of her internship, Rubia is working on market research for a new drug aiming to enter the market. This project allows her to examine industry trends and competitive analysis, honing her ability to deliver strategic insights. The internship has significantly improved her project management skills as she coordinates various research activities and timelines. Additionally, Rubia’s role has enhanced her stakeholder management skills, enabling her to effectively communicate and collaborate with different teams and clients, ensuring that all project aspects align with the overall business strategy.
“How I present to my manager is different from how I present to the client,” Rubia explains. “This internship has given me the opportunity to learn these new skills and practice them in real time with the help and guidance of experienced professionals.”
