Thriving as a working parent: Family-focused support at ZS

Balancing professional commitments and family life is important, and ZS recognizes the need to support working fathers in this journey. Paternity leave at ZS offers fathers the opportunity to be fully present during one of the most transformative periods of their lives. By embracing policies that encourage active involvement in parenting, ZS fosters a culture of equality and family-first values, ensuring that new fathers feel supported as they navigate both personal and professional responsibilities. This progressive approach highlights ZS’s commitment to creating an inclusive and balanced workplace. For ZSers like Utkarsh Jain, a business technology solutions manager in Pune, it has made all the difference in feeling both personal and professional fulfillment.

Where passion changes lives

As Utkarsh’s career at ZS has progressed, he has become increasingly intentional about prioritizing work-life balance. A key turning point came with the birth of his daughter, which inspired him to reassess his approach to managing his responsibilities.

“ZS’s gracious paternity leave has made a huge difference,” Utkarsh says. “For about a month and a half, I was able to completely detach from work and focus on supporting my wife and building a relationship with my daughter.”

ZS’s Family Leave Program in India is designed to give employees time away from work following the birth or adoption of a new child or to care for a family member with a serious health condition. Recognizing the significant role parents and caregivers play during changes in family status or health crises, ZS created this comprehensive program. Under the Family Leave Program, new fathers are eligible for up to 10 weeks of paid leave, which can be taken within the first 12 months of a child’s birth or adoption.

“Parenting is not just on the mother, there is a balance,” Utkarsh says. “The early days are where you build a lot of connections. During this time, I established a bedtime routine. This led to a strong bond between me and my daughter; even now, she never sleeps without her dad.”

Having returned to work, Utkarsh continues to prioritize his family. With a flexible work schedule, Utkarsh starts his day early and delegates tasks effectively, ensuring that he can be present for his family while excelling at work. Taking note from an associate principal, he even blocks evenings on his calendar so he can continue to be present for his daughter’s evening routine. This balance has allowed him to thrive both as a dedicated ZSer and a devoted father, reflecting ZS’s support for flexible and family-oriented policies.

ZS plays a crucial role in supporting working parents by organizing discussions and educational sessions tailored to their needs. From navigating the process of selecting daycare to strategies for minimizing screen time for children, ZS provides valuable resources to help parents manage the challenges of balancing work and family life. These ongoing sessions address a wide range of parenting topics, ensuring that ZSers feel empowered and supported in their journey as both professionals and parents.

“I remember getting into a long conversation about what it means to be a good father,” Utkarsh recalls. “This discussion helped me let go of bias and understand that it is a unique and individual journey.”
