ZSers are committed to making their communities healthier places to live. By partnering with clients and nonprofit organizations, ZSers worldwide find unique ways to deliver healthy, fair and sustainable outcomes for all. This includes giving back through ZS Cares, a global program where ZSers use their knowledge, skills and passions as a force of good to support the communities where they live and work.
In 2023 alone, ZSers have partnered with community organizations and invested over $1 million to bolster diversity, equity and inclusion efforts in the United States. Meanwhile, in India, we have partnered with education and healthcare organizations on initiatives that benefit 5,000 children and 16,000 other individuals and have planted 9,000 saplings across the country as part of our climate action efforts.
This just touches the surface of ways we give back throughout the year. Outside of these ongoing initiatives, we proudly organize our annual global day of volunteerism—ZS Cares Day. This year, 1,650 ZSers from 31 offices worldwide volunteered over 7,000 hours of work to their communities. Keep reading for highlights from our fifth annual ZS Cares Day.
Where passion changes lives
In India offices, ZSers volunteered with the Seva Arogya Foundation and Jeevanstambh Foundation, organizations dedicated to improving healthcare accessibility and quality for underserved communities. The team visited these areas to participate in the health check-up camps and assisted medical professionals in organizing the camps, ensuring healthcare services reach those who need them the most. In New Delhi, ZS donated a YOLO health ATM to Jeevanstambh Foundation as a step toward primary, preventive and predictive healthcare. This ATM performs over 65 tests and instantly shares the result, reducing patient wait time and follow-ups.
ZSers in Jamaica volunteered at Bellevue Hospital, a local mental health facility, for a day of tree planting. The team assisted with extending the garden of the Bougainvillea Ward by planting 75 Bougainvillea flowers and a few fruit trees. To help maintain the newly extended garden, the team also donated irrigation lines. These hours of hard work will support the hospital’s mission to create an environment that promotes and sustains wellness.
In Chicago, ZSers volunteered with Cradles to Crayons, a nonprofit organization that provides resources such as school supplies and clothing to homeless and low-income children. The team sorted through bins of donations, helping over 1,000 kids get warm coats and meet clothing needs for the winter. The team was even surprised by a visit from CBS News.
ZSers in Sao Paulo partnered with Make-A-Wish Brazil to help a child’s dream come true. The team developed a plan to help a six-year-old battling neuroblastoma find more joy by fulfilling his wish of having a Nintendo Switch. “We had a ton of fun and felt so grateful for the chance to make a difference in this young hero’s life,” says Diana Ferreira, front desk administrative assistant in Sao Paulo.
In San Diego, ZSers spent the day volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House at Rady Children’s Hospital. This nonprofit organization provides housing, food and care for families who need to travel for medical treatment. ZSers sponsored, prepared and served lunch, sorted toys for the patients and their siblings, and did crafts in the community area.
ZSers in Singapore volunteered with Passion Wave to kayak and clean reservoirs. Together, the team picked up buckets of litter and learned how best to help protect the environment from pollutants, which can have disastrous effects on the health of communities. By investing in sustainable practices and eco-friendly initiatives, ZS helps improve health outcomes.
In Bengaluru, 30 ZSers volunteered with Seva Sahayog Foundation to assemble school kits for children studying in rural schools. The team put together 300 school kits containing an assortment of books, stationery and a bag donated by ZSers.
In London, ZSers volunteered with Oasis Children’s venture, an organization that provides innovative and inclusive outdoor play and learning opportunities that enable disabled and non-disabled children and young people to lead happy, fulfilled lives and play positive roles in the community. The ZS team spent their day painting, building and enhancing playgrounds around their community.
In Boston, ZSers volunteered with Community Servings, helping prepare meals for people across Massachusetts living with severe, critical and chronic illnesses such as HIV, cancer, diabetes and kidney disease. This volunteer opportunity allowed ZSers to innovate treatment options with clients and actively improve the day-to-day lives of patients managing these illnesses. ZSers also helped prepare hundreds of pounds of food and packed hundreds of meals.
This is just a small selection of the volunteer initiatives ZSers lead around the world. To stay informed on our upcoming ZS Cares initiatives, follow us on social media.
