Where passion changes lives
If there’s one thing that unites ZSers, it’s our passion. We are deeply motivated to have a positive impact on the world.
This shows not only in our work with clients but also in the conscious ways we interact with our community. For example, ZSers around the world have come together to form office-based green teams to combat the negative effects of climate change. This mission began with no corporate mandate and was fueled by grassroot desires of ZSers across 17 offices. Sustainability@ZS comprises ZSers like Bryce Land, a strategy insights and planning associate in Boston, and works to reduce ZS’s impact on the environment, serve as an example of responsible environmental stewardship and empower ZSers to create change.
“To me,” Bryce says with a contemplative look painted across his face, “sustainability means a business that can operate in harmony with the world. Each individual company has a responsibility to make sure it can continue to exist indefinitely without harming the planet and while benefiting society. That means a lot to me.”
“Sustainability@ZS accomplishments are profound. The team works on the leading edge of professional services firms reducing the environmental impact of their business operations.”
Bryce pauses, running his hands through his hair. “My generation cares a lot about the environment because, as we grow older, we are going to start experiencing the negative effects of climate change. I feel the responsibility to mitigate those negative effects as much as possible.”
Bryce smiles, “I’m lucky to have a platform to do that working at a large and caring company like ZS.”
“I joined ZS a year and a half ago,” he says. “Luckily, Boston has a very lively green team, so I had the opportunity to pursue this passion. When I first joined ZS, it was a great way to both help the planet and get involved in the Boston office community.”
Bryce sits up straighter with pride as he shares, “Over the past few months, I was lucky enough to be on a team that is building ZS’s firm-wide sustainability strategy. Within that project, I’ve been doing two main things: the first is finding ways to improve ZS’s impact on the environment, and the second is spreading awareness of all the great things ZS has been doing for the environment.”
The list of things ZS has been doing is extensive, thanks to the passionate work of Bryce and his team.
“ZS is eliminating single-use plastic wherever possible,” Bryce boasts. “In fact, our Pune office was the first to go completely plastic free. Next, ZS has been making the intentional effort to only work with sustainable suppliers when making decisions about procurement.”
“Additionally, we are disposing of electronic waste like old laptops and old phones through third-party vendors to ensure they can be recycled and reused rather than ending up in a landfill. ZS also incentivizes greener methods of transportation through commuter benefits. This aims to limit the large portion of ZS’s carbon footprint that is caused by commuting. Depending on the office, ZS offers different things such as a subsidy for public transportation or a bike.”
“ZS is also working to locate our offices in ecofriendly buildings that are either LEED certified or Energy Star certified to make sure that all our buildings are made using sustainable practices and can operate sustainably. We are also opening new offices that are closer to client sites. This reduces the total amount of air travel that we must do since travel by plane is one of, if not the biggest, sources of emissions for ZS.”
Sustainability@ZS’s accomplishments are profound. The team works on the leading edge of professional services firms reducing the environmental impact of their business operations.
Bryce smiles wide as he reflects on the impact Sustainability@ZS has had. “This all really show that ZSers as a whole all have similar values and similar morals. It's so great to see that we all care about the environment together.”
